Coaching

As coaches our job is to help our clients change their behavior in order to live better more fulfilled lives. We hold a space for them to be their best, to grow in areas that have become dormant, and reach their full potential. Coaching is about moving forward and creating change. But what is change?

According to Dr. Joe Dispenza (What the Bleep Do we Know, Evolve Your Brain…), each one of our thoughts causes a chemical reaction in the brain that is transmitted to the cells in the body through the nervous system. When these chemicals reach the cells they cause them to behave in certain ways which produce different feelings (i.e. a joyful thought makes us feel energized whereas with a sad or “depressed” thought we feel tired etc.). In time and through repetition of the same thoughts over and over again, the cells learn to produce the corresponding “feelings” automatically until it is no longer necessary to produce the thoughts in order to get the feelings. These happen spontaneously. This is how habits are formed. Dr. Dispenza says that a habit is when the body takes over the mind. Consequently change is to pull the mind back out of the body and into the brain. Therefore change happens when we can think better than we feel or better than our environment makes us feel.

A coach’s mission is to help the client effect long-lasting change in their life through modified thinking. Using specific techniques a coach can help individuals learn about themselves, re-frame their perspectives in order to start thinking better than their environment and than how they feel and maintain the vision. The ultimate purpose of coaching however is not to make clients feel better about themselves or their circumstances. We do this to help them set and commit to new goals and move swiftly into action in order to achieve them.
